 Caribbean Premier League  (CPL)






The Caribbean Premier League is a Twenty20 domestic cricket tournaments held in Caribbean. It was founded in the year 2013 by Cricket West Indies. The current sponsor of  CPL is Republic Bank Limited and thus named as 'Republic Bank CPL'.  It is played in the double round robin format and playoffs. Six (6) teams from across the country takes part in the league.  The champions of the inaugural season of CPL was 'Jamaica Tallawahs'. The current champions of CPL is 'Guyana Amazon Warriors' and the most successful team of the tournament so far is 'Trinbago Knight Riders'  having 4 titles. Johnson Charles  has scored the most runs (2855) and  Dwayne Bravo had taken the most wickets (130) in the tournament so far. Cricket West Indies has conducted total 11 successful seasons so far. CPL also do have their own website 'www.cplt20.com'.

  • The tournament had replaced Caribbean Twenty20 championship as primary twenty20 competition.
  • The Inaugural edition of Caribbean Premier League was played in 2013.
  • Jamaica Tallawahs became the first champions of CPL.
  • Antigua Hawksbills is only the defunct team of CPL.
  • During 2014 season, Guyana Amazon Warriors player Lendl Simmons was caught by USA official as they thought Simmons bat was being used to smuggle illegal drugs.
  • In CPL history, it was the first occasion in 2016 when United States hosted few matches.
  • Barbados was the country to host the first ever match of CPLT20 on 30 July 2013.
  • Andre Russell has scored the fastest century of CPL as he smashed the ton in just 40 balls against TKR. Interestingly he also took a hat-trick in the same match in 2018 twenty20 season.
  • Rashid Khan became first bowler to take hat-trick in the tournament.
  • It is telecasted on Star Sports network in INDIA and on fancode for digital users.
