LASITH MALINGA - THE SLINGA
Lasith Malinga is a Sri Lankan cricketer and the current capital of Sri Lankan national team in T20 International. He was also the captain of Sri Lankan national team in 2014 T20 World Cup 2016 when Sri Lanka won the T20I World Cup. He is known for his fast bowling and is different action. He is known by many names such as Yorker king, Kagawena, Malinga the Slinga, Mali, Lanka lion and many more. He made his test debut on 1st July 2008 vs Australia; ODI debut on 17 July 2004 vs U.A.E. and T20I debut on 15 June 2006 vs England. He had announced his retirement from test cricket on 22nd April 2011. He plays for Mumbai Indians in IPL. He has been named as the official event ambassador for World Twenty20 Championship by ICC. He took his ODI retirement after playing with Bangladesh on 26 January 2019. He had made many tattoos on his hand regarding a date of debut in Test cricket and regarding the date of 4 wickets in 4 balls and all.
In IPL, Lasith Malinga has served Mumbai Indians from the first season (2008). He is the leading wicket taker in IPL. In 2010, 2011 and 2014 he was named in the cricinfo alltime IPL XI. He won the Purple cap award in the fourth season of the IPL. He chose MI over Southern Express in CLT20 Cricket tournament.
He has a distinct bowling action. His action similar to slinging, so he got the name 'Slinga Malinga' or 'Malinga the Slinga'. He had also said that his action is the result of learning and coming into the cricket. He is one of the best death over specialist (bowler) inn international cricket.
He has made many record such as first bowler to take 100 T20i wickets; only bowler to take 4 wickets in 4 consecutive balls in the international cricket (1.vs South Africa in 2007 and seconf time vs New zealand in 2019; first and the only player to take hat trick in ODI; highest 9th wicket partnership in an ODI with Angela Mathews against Australia with 132 runs; he is the leading wicket taker in international cricket with a total of 5 and also the in ODI cricket with 3 hat tricks.
In February 2018, he was appointed as a bowling mentor for MI team as a bowling coach for the side in 2018 IPL season. MI franchise reveals that he would play a supportive role as a mentor ahead of 2018 IPL season. Due to the decision made by MI team he was in auction for 2018 IPL and due to his poor Bowling in 2017 IPL season but he was again retained by the MI team for 2019 IPL season.He was also appointed as the bowling coach of team Rajasthan Royals in the year 2022.
